Marionne Lapitan

Marionne is a Traffic/ITS Engineer at Jacobs. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering at California State University, Long Beach in 2019, and Master's Degree in Civil Engineering at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona in 2023.

Actively involved in ASCE as a student, serving as the 2018-2019 CSULB Co-President, Marionne joined OC YMF to continue to make a difference in her community through civil engineering in hopes of building a brighter future for the next generation. She is passionate about designing and building communities, both structurally and socially. Seeing the organization foster a positive difference in both her personal and professional life inspired her to promote the profession to a broader audience beyond academia. She enjoys graphic design, hiking, traveling, and anything involving creativity and adventure!

Karen Luong

Karen is a Civil Analyst in Transportation/TPTO at Kimley-Horn in Orange. She graduated from the University of California, Irvine with a B.S. in Civil Engineering in 2023. As a student, Karen was heavily involved in ASCE since her first year of college and served as the ASCE UCI Student Chapter President in her senior year. Karen joined OC YMF to give back to the community by inspiring students and young professionals. Karen enjoys crocheting, playing badminton and tennis, and trying new foods/boba spots in her free time.

Nathaniel Kapongo

Nathaniel is a Transportation Engineering Associate at LADOT in DTLA, working in their Metro programs division. He's currently working on developing the G Line project in the valley. He received his B.S. in Civil Engineering in 2021 from California State University, Long Beach.

Nathaniel has been heavily involved in ASCE since his freshman year working on projects and outreach events. He now serves as a Practitioner Advisor and WRYMC Treasurer. Outside of engineering, Nathaniel enjoys trying out new recipes, quidditch, and traveling.

Michelle Sabers

Michelle is a Junior Engineer at Zephyr Rail. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Irvine (UCI) in 2022. She earned a Master of Science in Structural Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin) in 2024.

While at both universities, Michelle was actively involved in various student organizations, holding general and board member positions. She previously served as the Chair of the FE/PE Review Committee and is excited to continue contributing and being actively involved in ASCE OC YMF. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, hiking, gardening, and collecting houseplants. Michelle also loves to travel and explore different cultures, appreciating their engineering innovations.

Jacob Perea

Jacob is a Civil Engineering Associate at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power in DTLA, working in their Water Distribution Division - Resiliency and Water Loss Management Group.

Jacob graduated from California State University, Fullerton with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and was actively involved in organizations on campus. He is excited to be involved with ASCE OC YMF this year and in the years to come. In his free time, Jacob loves to cycle, mountain bike, cook, and enjoy the great outdoors.

Alex Yang

Alex is a Water Staff Engineer at AECOM in Orange. He has experience with various Surface Water Projects including Floodwalls, Storm Drain, and Dams and Reservoirs. Alex graduated from University of California, Irvine, with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and an emphasis in Water Resources in 2023.

In college, Alex served as Professional Outreach cabinet member and External Vice President for the ASCE UCI Student Chapter. After graduating, Alex has been involved in OC YMF to expand his network and contribute his experiences and knowledge for both personal and engineering communities. Alex’s hobbies include: tennis, pickleball, watching engineering YouTube videos, and he is hoping to learn some golf.

Brian Marquez

Brian is a Roadway/Highway Engineer I at HNTB. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from California State University, Long Beach (CSULB).

During his time at CSULB, he was involved in CSULB's student chapter of the ASCE, where he took on the board member positions of conference committee member and fundraising chair. As a board member, Brian aims to support the Long Beach student chapter and further connections between other YMF chapters through different events. In his free time, Brian enjoys running, watching movies, and reading.

Carlos De La Sancha

Carlos currently serves as the Co-Liaison for the CSUF student chapter and is also an Engineer I at HNTB in DTLA.

Carlos was involved with organizations such as ASCE and ITE during his undergrad at CSUF and this inspired him to continue with transportation in his career path. During his free time, Carlos likes to go jogging and hiking along trails in Los Angeles.

Don Vu

Don is a Transportation Engineering Associate III at the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT). He received his Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) in 2019. Don has been involved in several mentorship programs at UCI and is currently one of the heads of LADOT's mentorship program. He enjoys encouraging the growth of the next generation and helping build their careers in transportation. In his free time, Don likes to travel, try out new restaurants, and read up on history.

Giovanni Hernandez

Giovanni is an Assistant Engineer at Riverside County Flood Control & Water Conservation District in the Operations Engineering Division. He graduated from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona in 2022 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering, Environmental Option.

During his time as an undergrad, Giovanni was involved in both Cal Poly Pomona's ASCE and ITE student chapters. He previously served as Communications Committee Co-Chair with OC YMF and is looking forward to continuing his involvement with ASCE. Kevin Tasci

Kevin graduated from California State University, Long Beach with a B.S. in Civil Engineering in 2023. He is currently a Design Engineer at Mark Thomas.

During his time at CSULB, he was heavily involved within the CSULB ASCE student chapter where he served as one of the Co-Presidents his senior year and as the membership chair & Timber-Strong Design Build Co-Project manager his junior year. Mia Martell

Mia earned her degree in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Irvine, in 2025, and currently works as a Roadway Design Engineer at Mark Thomas. As a student, she was involved in the ASCE Cabinet and Pacific Southwest Student Symposium technical projects. As a new board member, her goals include increasing student involvement in YMF and helping to further develop the mentorship academy program. Samuel Saldivar

Sam is a Civil Engineering Associate working in the Inter-Agency Utility Coordination group at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. He is a Cal Poly Pomona alumni and received his Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.

Ashlyn Alexander

Ashlyn is a Road and Highway Engineer at Parsons Corporation in Irvine. She received her B.S. in Civil Engineering in December of 2016 from San Diego State University. She has been involved in NSBE, WTS, and ASCE throughout her college experience and career.

With a quick move to the OC, she recognized the need to join professional organizations in the area to succeed professionally and personally and OC YMF was an excellent way to get started! OC YMF is very welcoming and continues to make the organization feel like home. With her passion to serve, she is excited to serve as President and continue to grow OC YMF as the premier resource and organization for younger civil engineers in Orange County.

Brisa Bernal

Brisa graduated from California State University, Fullerton with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil & Environmental Engineering. She currently works at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power as a Civil Engineering Associate I.

Christopher Acebal

Chris graduated from California State University Fullerton with his B.S. in Civil Engineering in 2024. He currently works as a transportation engineer at Caltrans. His experience includes airport construction, construction management, and traffic operations. During his time at CSUF, he was heavily involved in the ASCE student chapter as the Pacific Southwest Symposium chair, Steel Bridge captain, Transportation team member, and Environmental competition team member.

Ishmel Albert

Ishmel is a Transportation Engineer at HNTB in the downtown LA office. He graduated from Cerritos Community College and then transferred to CSULB and received a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering. He got involved in ASCE when he transferred to CSULB, where he was Historian, then went on to be Activities Chair and Transportation PM for CSULB PSWS team. Shyam Patel

During his time at CSULB, Shyam served as the Vice-President and Outreach Chair for the ASCE Student Chapter at CSULB. Tyler Hodges

Tyler graduated from UC Irvine with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and works as a Design Engineer at Mark Thomas. His experiences includes work on utilities such as sewer, water, and drainage design, as well as transportation. During his time at UC Irvine, Tyler was heavily involved with expanding his connections with students and faculty as a Resident Advisor in Student Housing.

Besides taking long walks on the beach, Tyler enjoys playing kickball, hanging out with friends, and baking desserts. Tyler is grateful to work with the amazing individuals within OC YMF and the future leaders of the upcoming generation.

Blake Thomas

Blake is a Civil Analyst practicing roadway design at Kimley-Horn in Orange. he graduated from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo with a B.S. in Civil Engineering in 2022. Blake was a student member of ASCE and led Cal Poly's Pacific Southwest Symposium Transportation Technical Team in 2022 and stayed active in the student chapter volunteering for many events such as concrete canoe casting days, community outreach, and creating weekly newsletters. Blake joined OC YMF to promote the civil engineering profession and to learn from others in the profession.

She has always had a curiosity about structural design and analysis, which ultimately led her to pursue structural engineering.

Calista recently got involved with ASCE OC YMF and is passionate about community impact. Gilbert Salas
