The Government Relations Committee participate and organize events for younger members to meet with local, state and federal legislators to promote infrastructure investment, advocate for legislative issues, and make a difference for our communities.
ANNUAL EVENTS
ADVOCACY 101 EVENT
An informative session that equips young engineers with the tools and knowledge needed to advocate for important issues in the field. This workshop covers the basics of advocacy, effective communication strategies, and the impact engineers can have on policy decisions. Whether attendees are new to advocacy or looking to sharpen their skills, the event provides a great opportunity to make their voices heard!
ELECTION NIGHT HAPPY HOUR
ASCE Orange County members watch democracy in action with fellow professionals. Attendees view the election results live and engage in lively discussions about the future of our industry. While enjoying refreshments, they network and share perspectives on how policy outcomes would affect their work. It is a fantastic gathering to toast to active participation in our democracy!
MEET YOUR ORANGE COUNTY LEGISLATORS EVENT
ASCE Orange County Government Relations Committee invites local Orange County legislators to talk about critical infrastructure issues such as drought conditions, electric grid resilience, transit safety, and funding.
SACRAMENTO LEGISLATIVE DAY WITH APWA
In partnership with the ASCE Region 9 (California) Board of Governors and the American Public Works Association, the ASCE Orange County Government Relations Committee visits the State Capitol in Sacramento, California to advocate for infrastructure and discuss key points covered in the 2019 California Infrastructure Report Card.
LEGISLATIVE FLY-IN AND POLICY WEEK
Every Spring, ASCE holds its Legislative Fly-In in Washington, DC, an exclusive and intensive two-day event providing participants with professional development in honing their skills in the public policy process and advocacy, as well as valuable peer-to-peer networking with fellow ASCE influencers. ASCE Orange County Government Relations Committee members participate and represent California Districts across Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Bernardino/Riverside.
