COMMUNITY SERVICE

The mission of the Community Service Committee is to provide meaningful opportunities for ASCE members to get involved with service events, local non-profits, and volunteer organizations. Through our outreach efforts, we strive to make our community a better place while simultaneously expanding our members' connection to the community. Our past events have included building homes, beach and wetland cleanups, food drives, toy drives, and meal services. We've volunteered with the Ronald McDonald House, OC Second Harvest Food Bank, Illumination Foundation, and SONRIE, to name a few.

ANNUAL EVENTS

COASTAL CLEAN-UP

Coastal Cleanup Day is California's largest annual volunteer event. It is an opportunity for people across the state to clean our creeks, rivers, lakes, coast, and shorelines of all kinds to help restore our environment. Virtually every body of water in California ultimately flows to the ocean, and that water can carry a lot of trash. ASCE OC YMF and our volunteers participated by picking up trash at Huntington City Beach.

VINEYARD ANAHEIM: FOOD PANTRY

The Community Service Committee partners with Vineyard Anaheim to provide over 450 families with fresh groceries and produce at the Brookhurst Community Center, in Anaheim, CA. Since the program’s inception at the beginning of the pandemic, Vineyard Anaheim’s Compassion program has been able to feed over 2.5 million families fresh produce and groceries every week.

CLOTHES THE DEAL: PROFESSIONAL CLOTHING DRIVE

Every Spring, ASCE OC YMF hosts a professional clothing drive in partnership with Clothes The Deal, a non-profit organization that provides free professional clothing and other services to low-income men, women, at-risk youth, and U.S. Veterans.

HOLIDAY TOY DRIVE

Every holiday season, ASCE OC partners with the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) to support their program SONRIE (Support of Orphanages in Need through Resources, Innovation, and Empowerment) to collect and deliver toys to Ojos Negros, Mexico. SONRIE works with orphanages and communities in need in Mexico to help improve living conditions and engage kids in STEM activities.
