As a child I wasn't sure of what to become, all I knew is that I wanted to help and make an impact. I aspire to want to care for the world because it’s our home. It's home because we are all connected and if one of us is slowly slipping away from existence we must first see it in order to take accountability. A lot of us don’t see that our day to day actions make an impact but it’s our choice to decide whether it helps or harms. If damage occurs time will treat it as if it was never there to begin with since it becomes a distant memory that fades with time. If people don’t care for the earth now, will they care for it when all its beauty is gone, will they finally see all the beauty it had, but will it be too late?

My art piece asks that question. Emphasizing the other person’s mentality plays a huge role in trash being scattered as it depicts someone littering and saying it’s just one piece. In society many think like this, but truth be told that one piece adds up and no one notices until there is a big pile of trash standing in their doorway. If many of us think like this, littering is an overall negative action that becomes a habit. That very habit influences and or converts the one small action into a big problem. There are often two on display: the watchers and the one who performs the action. The guardian symbolizes the observer that is guilty as they watch others litter, it makes the observer just as guilty as the performer because they saw but did nothing. What kind of example are we setting for younger generations as the kid views the people who are supposed to be their role models. We have to oppose this kind of behavior by learning from it. In doing so we need to educate younger generations to care for the environment by ensuring they have an environment to care for.

As a result we need to work together so we don’t breathe in toxic air, increase global warming, and litter because these things can endanger the health of all organisms. Global warming caused by fossil fuels coming from the use of cars that release greenhouse gases which traps warmth in the atmosphere. The impact it leaves is an increase of temperature within the ocean that kills off ecosystems like the coral reef. Causing a chain reaction of not only loss of home to many marine species but also endangering the population of the species. Not only are we warming the ocean but we are allowing individuals to be exposed to toxic chemicals in the air on a daily basis. Another harmful impact comes from littering for example it can end up in the ocean which then can suffocate marine life. We need to be more aware that our actions have dire consequences not only towards us but to other living organisms since we are one in the eyes of the world.

Advocating for change allows for actions to coexist as people start to care. I want not only for humanity to notice the earth for what it is, but also to care. We shouldn’t have to look for an alternative home by looking for another planet, we must learn how to take care of what we have now even if that means changing habits. I want the generations coming forward to know about marine life and actually get to see it physically rather than only seeing a picture of what was. We should make it our mission to not only teach younger generations about how to care for the world but also set an example by being their role models.
