Why Does Our Planet Matter?
Our planet is something we can’t replace if it is destroyed, we are dependent on it. Our planet is a beautiful, delicate necessity. If we keep ruining it, we could cause our own extinction in the future. Pollution, AI usage, fast fashion, and more are problems on Earth. But there’s still time to save the earth and reverse the problem we created.
We can stop littering entirely, I’m aware almost everybody has done it at least once. We can carry our trash until we find a bin to place our filth in, and if there is any trash on the floor we should pick it up and put it where it belongs. Littering can also lead to it going into drinkable water in the wind, and as the plastic settles in the water, it may turn undrinkable over time as it gets filled up with trash.
Pollution can also be caused by polluting the air, not just by trash. Smog from facilities is a problem we can fix to save the earth, too. Pollution causes many negative effects on Earth, such as climate change from air pollution. California is currently suffering from climate change, and terrible air pollution.
We can stop facilities from putting out smog in the air and use something better for a shift. Cutting our AI usage would be an idea for the issue, too. ChatGPT takes up many gallons of drinkable water to cool down its software, and many people around AI data centers have no access to functioning water, or even sinks in their house due to all the water going to cool down AI.
To solve this, we can stop using all types of AI we don’t need, such as using ChatGPT to write essays for us in classrooms. I never knew why people would use AI. In my opinion I see writing without AI as basic wisdom. I agree that AI is taking away creativity, too.
Due to the fact that instead of writing a good story, or even drawing a piece of art with a soul, people still choose to let an artificial thing do it instead of letting it become meaningful with at least a little bit of effort.
We can stop using AI for things we can easily do. I feel AI should only be used for something that is actually helpful. For example, helping a blind person pick what clothes they’re buying by telling them out loud the details of the clothing, or what’s in front of them.
We can also help the environment by boycotting fast fashion. Fast fashion is sadly everywhere, almost everything is fast fashion, and you may have bought from it. These include Amazon, Shein, Target, basically any mainstream shops. When things don’t sell, for example, clothing or shoes, they usually destroy or just plainly throw away the perfectly good items into the trash bins, to be sent to a pile of clothing that will take years to decay.
This doesn’t just include clothing, too. Many trends online, for example Stanley cups were mass produced because everyone wanted to buy them, and now they lie in thrift shops, trash cans, and trash areas because the trend faded away, and people didn’t like them anymore. They weren’t selling out as they were, so they were made just to hurt the environment more.
We can boycott mainstream shops, or at least buy what we really need or are going to use. At the end of the day, they will still throw out things that won’t sell, but giving them a reason to stop creating more is better than nothing because it will show companies we only buy what we need.
A same problem from shops occurs, and it’s about the plastic bags they give to customers. Not only is plastic terrible for the environment, but it’s usually one use only. The plastic bags break easily, so there’s no way to reuse them much. They almost always go in the ocean to decay in many years, taking forever for the earth to settle it down, and many animal die due to ingesting it.
We can stop this, if we just take reusable bags when we go shopping. They come in many different designs, carry more, and are comfortable to carry than plastic bags. Most stores should sell them for under $5. If we all take care of the earth, we can save our future, and the world will surely thank us.
