On November 13, 2024, more than 30 planners, engineers, and students gathered for a collaborative bike ride co-hosted by the ASCE Orange County Young Member Forum (OC YMF) and the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals (APBP) SoCal Chapter in Downtown Long Beach. The event highlighted the city's innovative bicycle infrastructure improvements.
Participants rode along a 1.5-mile section of Broadway Boulevard, learning about the city's ongoing efforts to enhance bike accessibility and safety. The tour was led by Long Beach Public Works Traffic Engineer Paul Van Dyk and Transportation Planner Ricardo Light, who shared insights into the design and impact of the city's bike infrastructure upgrades.
The ride began at Long Beach City Hall and covered three key intersections—Pacific Avenue, Long Beach Boulevard, and Elm Avenue—throughout the 2-hour tour. Attendees gained a deeper understanding of how Long Beach is creating a more connected, sustainable, and bike-friendly urban environment.
