ASCE OC T&DI: City Development Panel with Anaheim, Yorba Linda, and Santa Ana

Mr. Rudy Emami (Public Works Director, Anaheim), Ms. Jamie Lai (Public Works Director, Yorba Linda), and Mr. Rudy Rosas (Public Works Director, Santa Ana) all joined us for an amazing Q&A session at the Tustin Ranch Golf Course on Thursday, July 10th. This joint event, hosted by the ASCE OC chapter and the ASCE T&DI OC branch, was moderated by Ms. Dina Rochford (HDR).
These three panel guests shared their collective experiences leading the public works space in their respective cities, working to improve existing infrastructure, and addressing the new challenges and needs of their communities. Some topics, such as the ubiquitous pavement repair and maintenance in any city, are common issues and goals for all cities. Other topics, such as the specific needs of the resort community in the Disneyland area of Anaheim, or controlling speeding within the Yorba Linda communities, are unique challenges that each city works to solve.
In addition, each speaker discussed the challenges of navigating the current social and political landscape to secure funding and make projects happen at the local level, as well as working with other agencies, consultants, stakeholders, and others to effect meaningful changes in their communities.
Dina Rochford brought a lively and relaxed tone to the discussion, keeping the topics moving and giving the audience a chance to share their questions and thoughts in the room.
This in-person event hosted approximately 80 people in the Augusta room at Tustin Ranch Golf Course on Thursday, July 10th. Participants had the opportunity to network with each other and the guest speakers.
T&DI appreciates Mr. Rudy Emami, Ms. Jamie Lai, and Mr. Rudy Rosas, as well as Ms. Dina Rochford’s time and willingness to speak to ASCE and the attendees who supported the event!
