ASCE OC University Outreach: E-Week 2026 Mindful Monday – Young Professionals Panel

Updated: 11 hours ago

Kicking off Engineers Week 2026, university students had the opportunity to attend “Mindful Monday,” a Young Professionals panel hosted by the ASCE Orange County Younger Member Forum. The event brought together experienced civil engineers who shared valuable insight about their journeys transitioning from students to full‑time professionals, and hearing their perspectives offered lessons that extended far beyond the classroom, especially in areas like work–life balance, organization and scheduling, and building a meaningful career in civil engineering.

The forum created a welcoming environment for aspiring engineers to ask questions and learn directly from professionals working in the industry. During the session, Kaden asked some of the biggest questions on his mind: What makes an intern stand out to a company? What are common mistakes new interns make, and how can they be avoided? What do companies look for in students at career fairs? Each panelist offered thoughtful responses based on their own experiences, providing practical advice that Kaden planned to carry forward as he prepared to start his internship that summer with Sully‑Miller.

Events like Mindful Monday highlighted the importance of connecting students with professionals who were willing to share their experiences and guidance. Kaden was grateful to the ASCE OC YMF board and everyone involved in organizing the event for creating such a meaningful opportunity for students and young engineers to learn, ask questions, and grow within the civil engineering community.
