We are thrilled to announce the results of the ASCE OC YMF World Water Day: K-12 Art & Essay Contest! This year, we received an overwhelming number of submissions that highlighted the creativity and passion of young minds regarding the 2025 theme “Groundwater: Making the Invisible Visible.” It was inspiring to see how students expressed their thoughts and ideas about the crucial role water plays in our lives.

Congratulations to the winners in each age category! Each winner showcased exceptional talent and creativity in their art and written works. Here are the results:

4 to 9 Years Old Category

In this category, young artists and writers were invited to explore their creativity through simple yet meaningful expressions. Participants created captivating drawings or paintings accompanied by a short caption that conveyed their understanding of groundwater and its significance. The emphasis was on fundamental concepts like celebrating water, its essential role in life, and inspiring action. This group showcased their unique perspectives with vibrant colors and imaginative storytelling, making complex ideas accessible to even the youngest minds.

10 to 14 Years Old Category

For participants aged 10 to 14 years, the contest offered a platform to delve deeper into the theme of groundwater. Entrants crafted thoughtful essays, ranging from 250 to 500 words, incorporating research and personal insights. They highlighted important issues such as the global water crisis, the vital role of groundwater in drinking water supplies, and its contributions to agriculture. This age group demonstrated a remarkable ability to articulate their ideas and inspire their peers, showing a strong understanding of the impact of water on our environment and communities.

15 to 18 Years Old Category

The participants in the 15 to 18 age category were challenged to push the boundaries of their creativity and analytical skills. They authored essays of 500 to 750 words that delved into the complexities of groundwater and its crucial role in sustaining life and agriculture. This category allowed students to engage in critical thinking and showcase their research skills, addressing issues such as water conservation, policy implications, and the broader implications of water scarcity. Their essays reflected a profound understanding of environmental stewardship and the urgency to address global water challenges, inspiring their peers and community to take action.

Each age category not only showcased talent and creativity but also fostered a sense of responsibility and awareness among students regarding the importance of water in our lives. We are incredibly proud of all participants for their contributions to this important cause!

 

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all educators, parents, guardians, and friends for supporting their students' hard work and dedication. Their participation in this contest illustrates the importance of educating students about water's role in our lives and inspires action toward solving the global water crisis.
