ASCE OC Community Service: Habitat for Humanity ReStore Event

On August 8th, the ASCE OC Community Service Committee met at the ReStore Anaheim location at 10:00 a.m., where we were welcomed by Habitat for Humanity staff and given a brief overview of the day's tasks and safety guidelines. After a quick orientation, we jumped right in and helped wherever extra hands were needed.

Much of our time was spent organizing and moving lighting and bedding inventory throughout the store. We also assisted customers, answering questions and helping them find items ranging from lamps to window shades. One unexpected highlight of the day came while sorting donations when we stumbled across an old water meter key and immediately recognized what it was, proving that engineers can spot infrastructure-related items just about anywhere!

It was rewarding to know that our efforts helped support the day-to-day operations of the store, with proceeds going directly toward Habitat for Humanity's mission of providing affordable housing and improving communities.

After our shift, the group gathered for lunch nearby to relax, recharge, and celebrate a job well done. It was a fun and meaningful day of service, and we were grateful for the opportunity to give back while spending time with fellow ASCE members.
